What is LazyTown?

LazyTown is the brainchild of Magnús Scheving and is an attempt to get kids to make healthy lifestyle choices. While the LazyTown brand is licensed for everything from bottled water to fruits and veggies in its native Iceland, in America it is just started to spread its wings and currently is just a children's show and associated books/videos/toys.

LazyTown on TV

What most Americans are familiar with is the LazyTown television series, aired on NickJr on weekdays. The show follows the adventures of Stephanie (the familiar, pink heroine) as she tries to make healthy choices in LazyTown, a town known for its...laziness.

Along the way she makes friends with Stingy (who's selfish), Ziggy (who eats too much candy), Pixel (who likes video games too much) and Trixie (who just can't follow the rules) and tries to make them make healthy choices as well. She also has Sportacus (the blue-clad, above-average hero) to help her out, especially when Robbie Rotten (the town grinch) decides the kids are making entirely too much noise and need to go back to being lazy.

The adventures are non-violent and Sportacus is there to save the day when something goes wrong. Every episode has its own song and dance number, and all episodes end with the Bing Bang production, where kids are encouraged to get up and dance along.

In other words, it's kid-friendly television with a moral that you won't feel bad plopping a rugrat in front of, but many kids-at-heart enjoy it as well.
